Longmont - Northern Arapaho Signing Ceremony
LSCA and the City of Longmont are proud to announce the Longmont - Northern Arapaho Signing Ceremony will take place on September 18, 2021 at 3 p.m. at the Longmont Cultural Center. This historic event will create Longmont's third sister city and the first between a Sovereign Tribal Nation and a City. This event will be open to the public and free tickets will be released soon. LSCA is proud to announce an expanded exchange for 2020 with the Northern Arapaho of the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. 2020 Olympics and the Exchange with Chino, Japan
Due to the 2020 Olympics being held in Tokyo, the 2020 summer Chino-Longmont exchange will be cancelled. We will resume summer exchanges in 2021. In 2020, we will have both an exchange with Ciudad Guzman, Mexico, and with the Northern Arapaho. Longmont Sister Cities hosts first-ever Native American Sister City Exchange
Arapaho students from the Wind River Reservation joined Longmont students for three days of a cultural exchange in June 2019. The students created art, studied storytelling, enjoyed meals together and made friends.
Longmont Sister Cities receives grant from Philanthropiece
To help fund the new Arapaho Exchange, Philanthropiece awarded a $1000 grant to LSCA! This inaugural exchange will pair local students with students from the Wind River Reservation for 3 days of cultural exchange. The students will create art, share stories and get to know each other. This is the first step to creating a potential Sister City relationship and the first of its kind in the United States. |
